Mate3s software or setting issue

Post by jmktexas » Fri Sep 18, 2026 12:53 pm

For the past 2 years I have used the radians in mini grid and grid tie depending weather and battery state. An oddity I have run into is when in mini grid and charging batteries and I switch to grid tie and if batteries are almost fully charged or close to it system will go to grid tie as directed but charge controllers will go to sleep instead of enabling sell. If batteries are only say 80-85% charged when switching to grid tie charge controllers don’t miss a beat and when batteries hit sell voltage system begins to sell. Over time I have tried various sell voltages, charge voltages, calibration voltages. Nothing seems to have an effect on it. I suspect a software glitch but there could be a setting somewhere causing charge controllers to go to sleep instead of staying in mppt bulk. Not an earth shattering problem but sometimes I forget to switch from mini grid to grid tie early enough and all charge controllers go to sleep. Only way to wake them up is to do a manual forced bulk charge. I haven’t figured out how to do that in optics so I have to stop whatever I’m doing and manually restart each charge controller. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

"No woman, no cry" reggae anthem.
"No grid, no grief" raymond anthem.

Totally grid ignorant.

Hello John,
I took a look at your site on OpticsRE and your settings look fine. With this being said, sometimes things come up in the software that may unintentionally interrupt the transfer of data. I would suggest first going to LOCK>141>Settings>System> Scroll down to Clear Internal Datalogs and then clear. Press UP to go back a page and then scroll up to Save / Restore Configuration (Make sure SD card is in on the side of the Mate3) and then press SAVE. Once this is done. You will need to turn off the INVERTER function at the Mate3 then Go into both the Inverters and Reset settings to Deafault and do the same in the Mate3 settings menu. Once this is complete. Go into the Lock settings once more and then go to SAVE/ Restore Configurations and Restore configurations. I woul dalso advise to taking screenshots of your settings on OpticsRE before doing this, just so that after you reset and then restore, you can go back in to OpticsRE and make sure the settings actually got resored, especially the Flextime Schedule. If you need further assistance with this, I would advise to either email us at support@outbackpower.com or give us a call at 360-618-4363 M-F 6:30am-4pm PDT. I created a case for this to reference if you call or email us: Ticket #217788

All the best,
-Kim

Raysun, I was 99% sure this wasn’t your ballyhoo.

Kim, I’m out of town right now but I’ll check in to your suggestions. Biggest concern I will have is the sd card reader on the mate. On its best days I find it dicey. All the same, thank you so much for your feedback.

I would suggest using an industrial grade SD card as they are more reliable, and data integrity is one of thier design features for storage and retrieval needs.

Consumer grade SD cards have given me a lot more grief.
