Hi all,
I have a Radian GS8048A 8kW, 48V 120/240VAC Inverter/Charger, an Outback Power Prewired GSLC 175A, and a MATE3s System. I use it as a back up generator for power outs. I bought it in 2021 and had it professionally installed. It has been working fine along with 2 of the BigBattery 5.3KwH 48V [HSKY] Powerwall LiFePO4 103AH Batteries.
Suddenly the system stopped working (I was not there when it happened so I'm not sure of the exact circumstances). We do tend to have surges here when the power comes back on and maybe it damaged one of the circuits in the inverter? When I power up the system I can get the inverter and Mate3 to come on but as soon as I turn on the L1 switch it turns everything off. In the event history on the Mate3 it notes, "Batt Volt Sense Fault GS-1" so I am concerned that it could be a battery issue as well. The Batteries shut down when the system fails and I need to charge them manually for 30 seconds, and then they quickly go back to around the normal 5.1 KwH and hold that charge well.
If anyone can give me some advice that would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Django

Hello DJango,
Usually when there is a Battery Voltage Sense Fault, this means that the communication from the batteries to the inverter is not being picked up by the Mate3/s. In many cases, which sounds like may be happening in your situation, is that the batteries are already close to the set low battery cut off of the inverter, so when anything draws the batteries, it hits that point and shuts off the inverter. Next time you are able to go to LOCK>141>Setting>Inverter>Low Battery and make sure the cut out is correct.
All the best,
Kim

Re: Radian GS8048A suddenly not working as backup
Hi
I changed the low battery cutoff and the system is back up again, however, when there is a blackout the inverter is not using the batteries for power like it did before. The inverter is "On" and no other settings were changed. Is there something I can do to address this?
Thank you for your help!!

Re: Radian GS8048A suddenly not working as backup
Use a multimeter to measure DC voltage at the battery's main +/- terminals. Then measure voltage at the Radian Bat +/- terminals.
The two readings should agree (with perhaps a minor voltage drop at the inverter end.) Also the battery voltage should be in the range above the inverter Low Voltage Cut Off
