PV Array performance.

Post by raysun »

Sixteen 440W PV panels have a rated output of 7040W. After 40 months, we see a day like today. Marine fronts blowing through lowering the ambient temperature. Cloud breaks expose high UV index sun.
We usually see 5kW+ output on clear sunny days. Cooling makes a big difference!

My neighbor called me yesterday afternoon. His FM80 wasn't charging, and was showing "zzzzzz" on the front panel. After poking around, he discovered the 30A fuse in the PV IN circuit had opened. After replacing it this morning, the FM80 woke up and went to work.
I think his system must have been experiencing the same conditions as mine.

Today, another record output from my 40 month old, 7040W array. It's divided between two FM80 controllers as 3520W each.
Today's peak output
CC1: 3970W
CC2: 4187W

Yup. Confirmed. My original panels (15yo), half of which have cracks (not shattered) are doing quite well. When cool in clear conditions they still put out bunches of watts. Where they seem to suffer is in the heat on a day with little air movement. More so than in the past. But then there is little problem with harvest anyway.

One of these days I will have to replace them. So far there is little difference in power production between 2ea 3x2 and one 3x1 string.
