Configuration question for Radian G8048A

Post by rickd »

I'm configuring my Radian system and I'm entering data for the charge controllers. The datasheet says they can charge/discharge at 100A. I have two batteries, and two charge controllers, so I assume I can set DC Current Limit to 200A. Or is the setting for EACH charge controller?
Right now it's set at 100A, but I don't know if that's limiting the total output from both controllers, or telling each controller they can each send 100A.

check with your battery manual to see what is the maximum charge current. and that should be the total limit.

I should have included that. Two LiFePO4 100A continuous charge batteries in parallel.

So I assume I would set 200A since it's two 100A continuous-charge batteries in parallel?

I don't have FM100's so am going on the assumption they are rated at 100A charge current. Two of them in parallel have a maximum current of 200A as does the two battery blocks in parallel, so the setup is a natural fit.

Each FM100 is set at 100A maximum charge current.

Would agree, but I was also wondering if the FM100s have to have the grid tie feature enabled (like the FM80s,) for total system current limiting..

We'll be running into this issue later this summer when another 5kw of solar come on line, as the ReLions would like to see 100 amps max per block. (200 total.)

It will be one of those I'd like to see the programming done, but it probably won't be an issue during the summer, as the system will not require gen support.

In the early spring / late fall, I can see shared max current limiting needing to happen if say the gen was started in the early morning due to low battery, then the sun comes up and gets both solar sources running at near full tilt. FM80 + FM100 + 90ish amps from the inverter...
Information, you get not; if incorrect question, you ask..

The Mate's Global Charge/Maximum Battery Charge setting will control the overall charge current from the charge controllers.

It will not controll charge current from the inverter charges, but will take their contribution into account when modulating the output from the FMs.

Not sure about the FM100, but the FM80/60 must have Grid Tie enabled for the Maximum Battery Charge function to work, as MBC uses code from the Grid Tie function to work.

Just tried to increase the value and the Mate3s maximum for that field is 100, so the question is moot.

Fortunately it is moot. 100A is the maximum rated charge current. It would be whack if it could be set to some arbitrary value higher than its rating.
