Question about FM100 + Tigo + RSI

Post by MJSullivan56 »

From the following app note document https://outbackpower.com/downloads/docu ... p_note.pdf we have figure 7 which shows two wires going from the FM100 to the GSLC (labeled "To Inv. On/Off" -- see attached diagram).

Can anyone tell me what I'm supposed to connect these two wires to within the GSLC? It's not clear to me.

Thanks!
Michael

Could they possibly mean "Switch INV" as shown in the attached diagram?

I don't use a Radian/GSLC so can't speak from personal experience. However, the Outback Inverters have an Inverter Off function, that is switchable from a pair of terminals.

On the FX class inverters, the terminal is normally closed for "ON" and open for "OFF". It has a jumper installed on its control board by default.

It appears the GS class inverters bring the function terminals out to the GSLC. I do not know if the terminals are active by default, and switch "OFF" when a signal is applied. Check the GSLC manual for details.

I guess the RSI leads will drive the terminals to the "OFF" state when active.

I install and maintain grid-tied and off-grid systems in my area and consult on solar system design/operation.

The OP's picture is correct on the terminals to wire to, which are in the Radian inverter itself and not in the GSLC. You need to remove the jumper shown in the picture for the function to work.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't have any context for the location of the 2nd image.

Thank you. Great documentation is hard to achieve, hence the ambiguity.

In the 1980s I used to design, build and maintain $1+M custom semiconductor production equipment at IBM, including writing detailed manuals. A few USA (for you IBMers EFK and MVA) maintenance techs on the midnight shift got some curt responses when they called me at home. The engineers and techs in France (MOP) actually read the manual, had questions during the install and we only had one emailed question in 5+ years.
