Adding to the Flex Power One?

A place where users can meetup with other FlexPower One users and can find support for one another. A great place for people who have not purchased the FlexPower One yet to look up information.

Adding to the Flex Power One?

Post by wpmaura »

So I will be recieving the flex power one in about 4 weeks. Specificaly its model FP1 FXR3048A. I have the oportunity to buy an outback 2kw inverter/charger. Can this be added to the flex power one? to give me 5kw

The installation manual says "All stacked FXR inverters must have the same firmware revision. If inverters are stacked with different firmware revisions, any unit with a revision different from the master will not function. The system display will display the following message: An inverter firmware mismatch has been detected. Inverters X, Y, Z3 are disabled. Visit www.outbackpower.com for current inverter firmware. "

In effect, sounds like the inverter you add must be identical to the one in your FP1. So no, probably can't add a 2000 watt inverter - unless OB uses the same firmware on different model inverters, which I can't speak to..

Even if the inverters were identical, getting the additional BOS components and wiring into the very cramped FP1 AC and DC panels would be a major pain.

I added an FM80 to an FP1, am very adept at electrical wiring in cramped spaces, and will not be trying this, or any, upgrades to a similar panel in the future. TBH, if I had an FP1 and realized I needed the 2nd inverter, I'd sell it and buy an FP2.

In addition to the issues highlighted by Mike and raysun. The only 2kW OB inverters that I am aware of are 12V systems. Your FXR3048 is a 48V system. You would therefore need another battery bank at 12v, another CC and another set of solar panels. Do not attempt to tap into a 12V segment of your 48V bank.

You might want to check what's needed for disconnects/breakers, and feed wiring, and make sure all that can be integrated properly.

I've never stacked inverters, but I've never seen mixed models stacked either.

well I think I need to purchase the identical inverter as the FP1 as I need to convert the house over to 240 from 120 so I can use my split AC units again and more importantly so that the power company will aprove my house so I can get power back into for grid tie.

If I didnt have little ones wouldnt worry about AC but there room is hot and gets no breeze.
