Mate making configuration changes to the system

Checking my email this morning, I had 50 messages from Outback for subscribed event notifications. When I checked the event logs, I found that numerous settings had been changed on the inverter and Comms. This started at 06:00 today, and the settings continue to change even as I write this post. Since I didn't make these changes/am not making changes, I find this somewhat alarming. The table below lists all of the changes from the first batch in the event logs. OpticsRe also just sent an e-mail saying that due to the large number of events on the system, that it was moving to hourly updates. Anyone have any clue as to why this might be happening? The mate3s is at FW 1.4.3. Thanks.

Don't worry about that. is just a gremlin in there that is playing with the settings.

We all get this messages more or less. they are like ghost messages that don't really reflect on the mate settings.

I had a lot before, then they stopped, occasionally I get some.

I just checked my logs and I see a lot of them again.

Also I tried to initiate a connection to grid to charge the batteries and is not executing it.

I will try the other system to see if is working.

It looks like a scan of the configuration settings. Did you notice if any settings had changed?

I usually get one message in the morning when the system wakes up. So far today I have over 950. If I look at the configuration settings, some (but not all) have changed to default setting and subsequently changed to other values.

I've just filtered out the events for Enable Voltage below. This seems to be bouncing between 0, 24, and 57.6 volts.

I just noticed that the System Inverter ACx Input Limit is flipping from the configured setting of 55AAC to 220AAC and then back. This is interesting in that the allowable values range from 5 to 55AAC. A value outside this range cannot even be manually entered.

that is way too many. I guess outback will have to check this again. supposed to be fixed with the latest firmware.

OP might want to update firmware to 1.4.5

I updated the firmware this afternoon and that seems to have stopped the issue. I now have to go back through the config and fix any changes made during this event. Anybody want to hazard a guess as to why this started happening today? The system has been quiet (from an event perspective) since it was installed in October. I haven't made any recent changes and everything has been functioning fine. It seems that it just woke up this morning and decided to start randomly changing settings on it's own.

I notice 2 outback systems listed. No Mate listed for either. Which system is affected?

Also, can you list the parameters that were changed (as opposed to just read)?

It's the Mate3s with the Radian. I'm going through all the settings in my config spreadsheet now and will list anything that remained changed after the FW update. Not sure I understand the "as opposed to just read" part of the question. While the event was unfolding, I was checking parameters to see if they were actually being changed. As an example, I verified that the Enable Voltage setting was being changed to three different values. It would go from 57.6 to 0, then from 0 to 24, and finally from 0 to 57.6. Are you thinking the system was just reading the values and then logging it to the event log? Thanks.

Most of the events that list "Config" are parameters being read, but not necessarily updated.

I went back in the log to initial setup and I see what you mean by some events that are more of an on/off state are listed as "config" in the event log. For those it would show initial state as enable and new state as disable. However, everywhere that there is a set value as in a specified voltage, the initial state is the old value, and the new state is the current value. Unfortunately they are all listed as "config" events. Is there any more detailed logging available for the Mate3s? Thanks.

I'm not aware of any more detailed logging.

You are on the right track in checking the parameters.

You might want to report the event to the Optics team. On the OpticsRE status screen, the ? in the lower left opens up a dialog for reporting.

I thought that I had corrected this issue with the firmware upgrade. Unfortunately, this seems not to be the case. Starting at about 1:00 AM today, I started getting event overflow notifications from OpticsRe. So far today I've received 1342 messages indicating configuration changes. The system event log shows the same number of configuration updates. I was able to verify that the changes are actually being made. Here's a partial view of what's happening sorted by the configuration item and then timestamp:

The "On Site" configuration changes suggest the issue is originating with the Mate (as opposed to coming from OpticsRE, for example).

I wonder if this is corrupt NVRAM, or possibly a defective unit. Perhaps try reloading the latest firmware.

Also, consider opening a ticket with Tech support. A replacement may be in order.
