System will not Absorb for time set

Post by Guydav »

Come on you Czars

What is causing my absorb time shut down before the time set?

Fm80 set to 10 hours
Mx 60 set to 4 hours (max allowable)
Charge end amps set to 0

Both FXs set to 6 hours via Mate
FNDC end charge Disabled.
Return amps set to 1amp

What is ending the absorb cycle??

Thanks in advance for your input.

Please clarify which Mate you are using. If a Mate3x and connected to OpticsRE, how about uploading a screen shot of a typical solar day?

FM80 at 10 hours?!? Are you sure you want to do this? I don't have multiple CCs but if one is set to 4 hours and the other set to 10hours and Global Charge control is enabled will the one with the shorter Absorb terminate the one with the longer? I don't know....

JR - Hope you don't mind my chiming in.
What is ending the absorb cycle??
See the manual:

Only way to tell if end amps are actually reaching 0 amps (why so low? btw) is by watching charge current as it happens or print a report from Optics (Reports, graphing data, single report) over the period of an absorb cycle.

This is one of several posts by @guydav on or about the same subject. A new battery was being commissioned and the migration. specified a 72 H high voltage charge. (Absorb was being used, but EQ would do the same task with less side influences.)

AFIK, the issue was resolved.

0 End Amps on the FM charge controllers takes that parameter out of the charge termination picture.

Thx Mike. I'm still confused with the 10 and 4 settings. And you are correct: Zero amps is curious. I don't know with only one CC in my experience. I was just guessing....

Raysun, I understand.

I set the End Amps in the FM charge controllers to 0, as recommended by Outback. End Amps is only useful under very narrow, controlled circumstances (constant load is part of it.)

The 10H and 4H settings are the maximum for Absorb on the two charge controller models being used, another reason Absorb is the wrong charging phase to be employed for commissioning a battery per the manufacturer's specs.

My theory is the charge controllers gave up on Absorb out of frustration. 😆

Raysun, you jogged my memory - I have my 2 FM80s set for 0 end amps as well, as per OB.

Memory is the second thing to go, I forget what the first thing was.
