MATE Software Requirements When Using a FLEXnet DC

Post by Bryan Thomas »

Hello Everyone,
We are very excited to be offering the new FLEXnet DC. It is important to note that the FLEXnet DC requires your OutBack MATE to be running firmware version 4.0 or higher.

OutBack will update for free any pre-4.0 MATE with the latest revision of firmware.
To request your free upgrade:
ÔÇó Call us at (360) 435-6030 and request a MATE firmware upgrade for the FLEXnet DC
ÔÇó OutBack Power Systems will issue a Return Material Authorization (RMA) Number

To issue an RMA, we will need the following information:
ÔÇó MATE model and serial numbers
ÔÇó Your shipping address

When the RMA number is issued:
ÔÇó Pack the functioning MATE in the original shipping container or in packaging providing equal protection
ÔÇó Mark the outside clearly with the RMA number
ÔÇó You are responsible for shipping and insurance charges
ÔÇó OutBack Power Systems will ship your upgraded MATE back to you
ÔÇó OutBack does not cover labor costs related to uninstalling and re-installing the MATE

If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call or post here.

For more information regarding the new FLEXnet DC, check out the product page located here:http://www.outbackpower.com/FNDC.htm, and the FLEXnet DC Spec sheet located here:www.outbackpower.com/specificationsheets.htm.

Do you have a release note for Mate firmware version 4.0?

What extra features (over and beyond controlling the FLEXnetDC) does it have, and is there any benefit non-FLEXnetDC owners upgrading?

Thanks,
Simon.

I also noticed that the Mate Serial Communications Guide linked to on the Manuals Page is the old version 3.02. I can't find the 4.02 version on the Outback web site.

Simon, Here are the post 3.02 revision notes from the copy I have of the 4.02 Guide:

Code: Select all

Revision 4.00 1. Add FLEXnet DC
Revision 4.01 1. Added battery temperature to FLEXnet DC.
              2. Added Accumulated AH and kWH for all shunts to FLEXnet DC.
              3. Added days since full to FLEXnet DC.
              4. Added daily AH field MX.
Revision 4.02 1. Added clarifications for FLEXnet DC status bytes.
It appears to be isolated to FLEXnet DC.

Hi Bryan,

I have a 2004 Mate (Serial number MA008395) running firmware version 3.3

How would I go about getting that upgraded to firmware version 4.x given that I am in New Zealand, and I am guessing that shipping the unit off to the US will be both time consuming and expensive.

Is there any way I can get the firmware upgrade done in New Zealand?

Cheers
Malcolm.

Bryan,

I just asked about this in a post Friday. I called Outback last week and tech support told me since my Mate 3 was only a couple of months old I wouldn't need the upgrade to 4.0 even though it was running 3.0. I installed the FNDC and it appears to be doing fine but apparently there are some features I'm missing? Should I call Outback again or just not worry about it?

Hi Folks,

Two questions:

We have an older (2008) Mate connected to a VFX3648. If we were to add a FLEXnet DC is it still possible to get the software upgraded by OB?

We do not currently have a Hub - the Mate is the only thing connected to the inverter - if we add the FLEXnet am I correct that we would also have to add a communication Hub?

Thanks for any advice. Regards, ~ks

Hi kitestrings,

OutBack Power still performs firmware upgrades for Mate/Mate2 devices, however, there is a $90 fee associated with the procedure. The upgrade will also include cleaning it up and replacing the silicone button pad if necessary. If you would like to set up an upgrade order, please call OutBack Power Technical support at 360.618.4363, M-F, 6am-5pm Pacific Time.

With regards to a hub, yes, you will need a hub to allow the FNDC to share its data with the Mate. You will also need one or more 10,000:1 shunts for monitoring current flows to and from the battery bank.

Anthnels,

Thanks for the update. Sorry, one more question. We have the original PS2DC panel which has a shunt, but I believe it is 500A:50mV IIRC. Will that work with the Flexnet?

kitestrings,

That is the correct ratio for your shunt.
