This is just really weird. Sure intermittent things happen esp. with computers and software. But some times the most obvious things are not considered. I once again hard reset the Mate3 with the Cat cable. It looked, eh, grungy. So I cleaned it with alcohol and lightly burnished the contacts on the plug with a pocket knife. Some crap came off. OpticsRE woke right up when I inserted the plug.

Could this be it? We'll see. If so it was $500 saved with a Leatherman.
CAT5 cables are cheap. Might be time for a new one. Also, get some DeoxIT to dress the contacts.

We don't use the outhouse too much anymore since we came into the 21st century. Fortunately the Mate3 isn't out there. It could get confusing.

Since the demise of the Sears catalog, the whole world has gone down the crapper.

That's really cool. We retired to work harder than on the clock. Hopefully you escape it.

Heh! I had to work like hell the last 5 years of my career convincing my clients I was really going to bail on each and every one of them.

Finally had to make up business cards with James Garner's face on the back and the tag line:
I've never made any secret of the fact that basically I'm on my way to Australia. And I don't think I'm gonna find a better time to get started than right now.

Installed the Mate3s on Wed. Pinged support to add the new MAC. No data lost (thank you Raysun).

All is well again. It was an expensive fix but swapping out obsolete equipment that is acting up needs to happen.

What you paid for was continuity of functionality and a new 5 year warranty.

If you can convince OB that you live in a jurisdiction that requires it, you can purchase a 10 year warranty.

You can tell them DW demands it. If they ask who that is you can say the Dalles-Washington Cross Columbia Power Authority (and authority of everything else.)

Actually, nobody wants to screw with the Klickitat County Sheriff. If he says it, it will happen.
