Re: An interesting protective device for MC4 connectors
Sadly, no pricing anywhere to be found. If your system has optimizers that would mean 7 devices for two panels, 10 devices for three panels, 13 devices for four panels, etc. If these devices cost $20 each that could add up very quickly. At $10 each they would be much more affordable for large arrays...

Question regarding PV grounding to combiner in attic
I plan on having two strings of six panels each on the roof of my house. Both strings will share the same racking. I plan on running two nylon JBOXes through the sloped roof, one for each string. The strings will be combined together downstream using a combiner in the attic. This combiner will natur...

Re: AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
Well this is sublime. The system is in fact working "as designed". Basically, when I was turning off my RSI, "nothing" appeared to be happening in that I was sill getting 120/240V output. But the reason is quite subtle: if there is grid power when the R3 jumper is removed, then t...

Re: AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
Done. And no change in behavior. Guess I will have to escalate this with support.
Thx.

Re: AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
As another (repetitive, eye-rolling) test. Replace the factory jumper, with no connections on the Inv On/Off terminals, and try turning the inverter OFF using the System Tools in Optics, or the equivalent function via the Mate. Hmmm… went to the Mate3s and selected Inverter, then selected mode=off....

Re: AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
• Inverter On/Off terminals. - Connect a short length of wire to the On/Off terminals. Confirm inverter state = ON. - Remove wire from On/Off terminals. Confirm inverter state = OFF. No doubt everyone here thinks I'm crazy. Just to put this to bed once and for all, here be the evidence: IMG_3165.jp...

Re: AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
If I can't get OB to quickly resolve why my particular inverter does not shut down when dry contacts are provided, I will have to try something else. One option is to insert a "remote control circuit breaker" into the mix. Something like the attached diagram. Remote Control Circuit Breaker...

Re: AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
...Its such a simple implementation, that's perplexing. Was it determined why it doesn't do as defined? Nothing from support. I might add that I own another Outback product whose pins don't work as documented. To wit: I have an open support ticket for an Outback RSI where they have promised to send...

Re: AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
I don't think he removed the jumper. without the jumper the inverter is in off state. the on off state from mate works only if the jumper is installed. Jumper has been removed (long ago). My inverter doesn't shut down when dry contacts have been initiated. Not sure if that is a feature or a bug wit...

Re: AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
My bad ray sun. I was looking at your post on my phone and thought it was a new insight. Sorry to say what you suggested is what I already did. You can see this quite clearly in the diagram I attached in the original post. So I’m still stuck. In spite of following OB’s documentation precisely, my in...

Re: AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
The ON/OFF terminals accept two wires that can terminate in a dry contact switch pretty much anywhere. Am I missing something? I assume you mean the 50a circuit breakers? Outback no longer ships their pre-wired GS4048a/GSLC combos with remote control circuit breakers (like they used to). They are j...

Re: AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
As most of you know, Outback has over the years made a lot of little changes to their equipment in order to comply with various NECs. One thing I have noticed is that my version of the inverter does NOT turn off during a rapid shutdown (but the charge controller does). Perhaps that is by design even...

I wonder if my AHJ would allow the remote circuit breaker to be installed in the subpanel? (As a main breaker)

Re: AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
As far as I can tell remote disconnect means that the ESS is no longer powering the subpanel. Hence the need for a remote control circuit breaker. It doesn’t seem to imply that the battery needs to be disconnected since a battery is merely one component of an ESS

Re: AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
Seems I’m going to need to add something like this to my setup: https://www.sigineer.com/product/remote-control-120v-240v-100a-ac-circuit-breaker/ Basically, what I’m gathering from all this is that the Outback GS series is not NEC 2020 compliant since because they require a battery they are therefo...

AHJ insists that Inverter must be able to be shutdown remotely
Our local AHJ is refusing to certify my setup due to his interpretation of NEC 706.15(A) -- Note that here in MA we have adopted NEC 2020. Specifically, he insists that there must be a remote shutdown for firefighters and when activated there should be no AC power delivered by the “Energy Storage Sy...

Outback RSI J4 pins
So I have my Outback Radian GS4048A/FM100 system set up for module-level shutdown. I'm using an Outback RSI as the exterior switch that the fire department can use to shutdown my PV modules from afar. So far so good. I plan on using the J4 pins to flag the RSI LEDs being in the "Solar Off"...

Re: (Gas) Vapor-ware for your consideration
Honda pioneered this a decade ago. Maybe they sold off their IP? For new construction it kinda made sense, as I recall. Would need further study which I’m not inclined to do at the moment.
