Re: 18 Mar 22: it would appear Optics is down

Eagle, how did you get that IP? When you do an "nslookup opticsre.com" you get ....

never mind,, the result I got this AM when I posted this was different then what it is now "23.99.68.42". And a
Capture.PNG
look at WHois shows why, the domain was re-assigned a couple hours ago

Re: is the Skybox retired?

So, the irony is I started this thread fearing for the Skybox, and I should have been worried about the Radian. So, I'm looking harder at the Mojave now. As M Curran said, no MPP, only AC sources. Does not look like a DC source can directly charge the battery. Call me nuts, but is this starting to l...

Re: is the Skybox retired?

Impressive Eagle. As per Ray's suggestion I asked Outback sales their product roadmap. Re: is the Skybox retired?

and that, gents, is why I also asked for the roadmap of the Radian ;-)

ON a side note, what kind of annual production do you get on your islands? I'm averaging about 16 MWh per year which given the snow for 5 months seems pretty good

Re: is the Skybox retired?

Well, the point is I'm considering putting in a system on my cabin and was thinking of the Skybox for all the reasons M Curran made. But I don't want to build on a device that is being discontinued the week I deploy it. I've been burned on that more then enough times. So to your next point I was thi...

Re: is the Skybox retired?

Yes, that's all true. But ... When I lived in Detroit in the 80's I wanted to buy a Fiero, but it had a dog of a 4 popper engine. Finally around 1987 they dropped in a hot little 6 popper and I went to buy one, and then in 1988 GM killed it. Why? A pal of mine at GM said it cut into the Corvette pro...

Re: Low Solar Production Readings

Also, don't forget your Mate has a web server on it also, and it updates much faster then Optics. It's very useful for comparing in near real time how components compare against their siblings (Fig 1). If you are at home, just point your browser at the Mate IP address.

Re: Low Solar Production Readings

OK, I'll add some more dirt to the water. Zach, I see you are grid tied so you should not be lacking for a sink to dump to, unless Utah is limiting what you can sell. I don't know about that. But, I do have a system similar to yours; 2 Radians and 14.4 nominal kW out. I can also say that my output f...

Re: would you run your Radians with no cooling fans?

I figured this out. When both the left and right inverters are on they are within a amp of each other and 5F. But, it takes the left inverter reaching about 70-75% of its 4kW design before the right side turns on. Then they load balance. So the left side carries the brunt of the heat load during low...

Re: would you run your Radians with no cooling fans?

HI PSS;
I've got the Radian load balancing on, the left and right inverters are within a 1/2 amp of each other, and yet w/out the forced cooling ( from the box fan still) the left one runs 20% or more hotter then the right. Odd

Re: would you run your Radians with no cooling fans?

Yep, saw that. Also took your advice and coupled a box fan (with a sheet plastic duct) to the intake of the non-cooled Radian to get it going again, now runs cooler then the unbroken one Say, if you get good at appliances, I have a couple of old Teac tape decks that were pretty good in their day, bu...

Re: would you run your Radians with no cooling fans?

While waiting for parts for Master, did an experiment comparing Master Radian (no fan) temps with Slave temps (fan) every 10 minutes (Fig 2). To simplify only recorded left modules, which were always hotter (Fig 1). At T=0 turned on array. Slave fan turned on at Txfmr temp = 140F. We can see the Txf...

Re: would you run your Radians with no cooling fans?

To pss; Thx, Iooked for the temp data in Optics and it is there, for that moment (Fig 1). But a dump from last Monday does not get that (Fig 2). Re: would you run your Radians with no cooling fans?

I've always thought of Outback as one of the best. But with most decent companies offering 10 years, outback makes you buy up from 5. And then they really only offer 2 or 3. So based on this https://www.generationsolar.com/inverters/inverter-warranties/ They rate right up there with Magnum and Motom...

would you run your Radians with no cooling fans?

On Monday I noted things in the shed seemed a bit quiet. Went in and sure enough, no fans running on the Primary Radian, but were on the secondary. Put my hands on the Primary and the -outside- was so hot I could barely keep my hand on it. Don't know how the inverters had not shut down, but they did...
