Re: Prioritise PV vs Grid

FM60 absorb time is 1 hour. I am not sure what you are asking for the remainder of your question. My system essentially gets sun in southern California. I estimate that I use the inverter's charger maybe 14-21 times in a year. My system is configured to begin a day charging in bulk grid tied, sell a...

Re: Feedback requested on my design layout before I start installing things

To fuse batteries, please purchase a terminal fuse holder and then a DC fuse that fits the terminal fuse holder. Just search the Bezos company for it or the G company. Attach to the battery terminal, put in your fuse and you are protected. Period. Simple. No problemo. Make sure to purchase a fuse ra...

Re: Prioritise PV vs Grid

This is how I prevent my inverter charger from charging my batteries unless they get very low or I want to manually turn on the inverter charger for a bulk or equalization charge. I set all my settings as desired, EXCEPT, I set the RE-BULK and RE-FLOAT to a low value, in my case 47.2 volts which my ...

Re: Feedback requested on my design layout before I start installing things

I may be way off on my comments. If your illustrations are permit drawings, I have a couple of comments. First, in top image of the roof, you show 12 panels facing southwest. This is good. But in second (middle) image, I see only 8 panels illustrated. And I don't really like how none of the wiring i...

Re: sulfation?

I have experienced this with my Trojans where the cell, if stirred up manually and then the electrolyte taken out to view looks a little greyish. It seems the grey material sits on the bottom of the cell. I corrected the issue by doing the following: I topped off all the cells with distilled water. ...

Re: Mate 3 will not leave Home Screen

Just a word of note. The Mate 3S is a lot more reliable unit than the Mate 3. So depending on how old your Mate 3 is, if its out of warranty and you cannot get it working, then you should upgrade to Mate 3S. As for any attempt to reset it, besides unplugging the ethernet cord from the Outback hub th...

Re: Briggs & Stratton acquires SimpliPhi Power

The main concern I see with this is that clearly B&S wants to add a "powerwall" offering to its standby generator line. This could mean a direction away from support of off grid systems like Outback and to directing simpliphi output into the plug and play consumer powerwall module. Cou...

Re: Dead system

Your profile doesn't say what kind of batteries and how many. But 16 liters (I hope it was distilled and not Molson or labatt's) is about 4.5 US gallons. So the questions is: If you add distilled water into your batteries, is there any acid that remained? Can't run the batteries without battery acid...

I see that now. A simple test is to try and use that same ethernet cable and see if it still works. If it does, still doesn't mean it didn't carry a voltage surge. Well he can still try to restore his Mate, otherwise junk it I guess.

The optics RE are not mimics of the Mate 3S LCD display. You have to become familiar with the operation of each. It takes a while.

Re: Narrowing Down what Broke in a thunderstorm

Try this. Copy your files from SD card to computer. Reformat the SD card and do not choose quick format. Set sector size 4096 bytes. After format complete, extract a new copy of the firmware onto your card. You ought to have the logfiles, webfiles, mate 3s and mate3seth files, inverter firmware, new...

I am proposing we start this new thread centered around our system performance, settings and problems we may encounter when a grid tied system is subjected to a utility outage. We here in California and other parts of the country and world are being increasingly subjected to utility interruptions. T...

IMO it will be important to make certain Fortress has provided you with the actual voltage required to completely charge and equalize the cells in their system. I believe their BMS which is built in can handle this. Maybe it is accessible by app (I don't have a Fortress). You initial goal is to top ...

Re: Odd corrosion on Radian 8048A case

IMO, sand it off with a wire brush and then sandpaper. Prime with a metal primer, top coat with a metal paint. Should solve the problem and provide all the protection you need. Make certain primer and paint say for steel and iron, not just say aluminum. Work to do but this issue is probably not a wa...

Re: If conduit gets wet inside can conductors short?

Electrical conduit is not waterproof, the glued connections are not waterproof. The main purpose is protection from sharp objects cutting the wire and animals chewing it. Remember there is direct burial wire not in a conduit. The insulation on the wires inside the conduit protects from moisture as l...

Re: Exploring various ways of connecting 10 gauge PV wires.

True, but the advantage of electricity is generally you just kill yourself. With gas you can blow up the whole block and kill a few people.

Failure to understand basic electricity and home wiring (and your urinary tract too) is one of the failings of the American educational system.

Re: Exploring various ways of connecting 10 gauge PV wires.

Every person in the USA and elsewhere that has a solar system should know how to turn it off, disconnect a coupled MC4 connector with the plastic tool, check the voltages, cut off the end and crimp a new connector and do a quick repair. Its simple and can save you a ton of money and time waiting for...
