Re: Noob with some questions about Mate3s settings adjustments

If you have the $$$$ to spend, the Honda EU7000is is about a good as it gets for powering an off-grid system. I had a FlexPower One and an EU3000is which was a great match up as well. The EU7000 takes it to a whole other level. Quiet, fuel-injected, super economical to run at less than full power, i...

Re: Buying a house with an outback system

More practical would be 4 to 6 units connected to the Radian in order to take advantage of its power output capabilities. Two units would equal 10kWH capacity, 8kWH usable. Enough to support a 1kW load for about 7 hours. 5 units would equal 25kWH gross capacity, 20kWH usable. Thats enough to run a ...

Re: Noob with some questions about Mate3s settings adjustments

The AC IN generator power power is split between battery charging and AC OUT to service "house loads". AC OUT has priority, as it demands more power, less is available for charging, and charge current is reduced. If the AC OUT loads exceed the rated output of the generator, the inverter wi...

Re: Buying a house with an outback system

LiFePo4 batteries are rapidly becoming commodity items (albeit, expensive commodities.) Outside the absolute no-name Chi-comm batteries, even the "econo" batteries are serviceable. The range of prices from "economy" to "top-tier" are well over 2X. Are the best batteries...

Navigate to the inverter setup / AC Input / Gen /
Gen Input Mode = Generator
Gen Input AC Limit = 15A

Re: Noob with some questions about Mate3s settings adjustments

What is the generator model? Also, if you look close at the generator line on the Mate, you'll notice at idle, the generator voltage = 125. Good. Under load, generator voltage = 104. Not good. Either its a small generator being asked to deliver a big load, or the generator has a malfunctioning volta...

Re: Buying a house with an outback system

Radian manual says 2" clearance on all sides, so you may be fine with the ceiling, hard to tell from the camera angle. I agree, it looks like a nice system that'll be worth the trouble to figure out. As mentioned, you need to find out what mode it's running in i.e. grid active, backup, off-gri...

Re: Buying a house with an outback system

Looks like the top one (?) has its output breaker open so no current flow. The other is charging the battery. Its difficult to tell just from a couple of pictures, but the "top" FM80 appears to have reached Absorb voltage, and perhaps exceeded it at the battery voltage measurement, so may...

Re: Buying a house with an outback system

As far as a 4 Ton A/C and a Level 2 EV charger, the Radian likely has the muscle to run them, but the battery capacity will have a big say in how long. A 240V @ 30A charger is going to draw in the neighborhood of 7.5kVA, close to the full output of the inverter. Its likely a load that could be servi...

Re: Noob with some questions about Mate3s settings adjustments

Low Battery Cut Off (LBCO) is set on battery voltage rather than battery State of Charge (SoC). LBCO is set in the Battery Protection section of the Inverter Battery Charger menu. If the FNDC has its aux contact wired to the inverter on/off jumper location then it can be set to shut down using SOC....

Re: Buying a house with an outback system

Thats a 1st class system. It looks cleanly installed (though the lack of clearance between the top of the Radian chassis and the ceiling is a bit concerning.) The Aquion should have been a "game changing" battery, but turned out to be a testimony to marketing and how difficult it is to bri...

Re: Noob with some questions about Mate3s settings adjustments

First thing is I want to change the power shut off setting from 50% to 30%. How do I go about doing that? Low Battery Cut Off (LBCO) is set on battery voltage rather than battery State of Charge (SoC). LBCO is set in the Battery Protection section of the Inverter Battery Charger menu. A note about ...

Ok, spill the beans. You have me interested. Heh! Sanity check first, then bean spilling. A quick trial was run, and the basic concept works. The devil, as always, is in the details. Synopsys: The desired state is to be able to maintain a LiFePo4 Partial State of Charge regimen while relying on the...

I'm still not understanding why you couldn't do a full charge to 100%SOC every 2 weeks. That's all it would take to keep the FNDC from drifting more than a few %.
I was thinking the same thing, and then thought up a way to automate it using the standard charging profile.

Re: Any way to do this?

So clearly, using SoC won’t work for my use case. Worse, it seems that it will eventually drift over time unless I regularly “top off” the batteries to full charge (which is not the plan). Guess I’m going to have to make do with voltage-only control. If the use case is chasing PSoC, then SoC meteri...

Re: 2 FM80

Both FM80 need to be manually programmed with the same charging parameters. Absorb Voltage, Absorb Time, Float Voltage, Re-Bulk Voltage, EQ Voltage, EQ Time, and Auto EQ Interval should be set to equal values on both FM80. End Amps = 0 on both FM80. Further, the combined maximum charging current out...

Re: Any way to do this?

I was glad I had a place and a locale to put up a flat roof at low enough elevation I could wrestle the panels in place myself. It was "doable" but not advisable. On a pitched roof, it's out of the question. Two people are necessary.

Battery reached full charge, and is now heading to Float voltage. Another day of 100% hassle-free charging.
TBH, I've spent more time on this post this morning than I have spent on battery charge maintenance year to date.

Re: Any way to do this?

Seems their FNDC is not quite up to the task of managing charging of lithium batteries. It is interesting how Fortress emphasizes how well their batteries work with Sol-Ark. I sure hope the OB guys figure out a clean way to upgrade our GS4048A systems. The FNDC manages my Lithium battery just fine....
